Al-Mutaffifin
The Defrauding
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
(١) وَيۡلٞ لِّلۡمُطَفِّفِينَ
Wailul lil mutaffifeen
(1) Woe to those who give less [than due],
(٢) ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكۡتَالُواْ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسۡتَوۡفُونَ
Allazeena izak taaloo ‘alan naasi yastawfoon
(2) Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full.
(٣) وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمۡ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمۡ يُخۡسِرُونَ
Wa izaa kaaloohum aw wazanoohum yukhsiroon
(3) But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss.
(٤) أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبۡعُوثُونَ
Alaa yazunnu ulaaa’ika annahum mab’oosoon
(4) Do they not think that they will be resurrected
(٥) لِيَوۡمٍ عَظِيمٖ
Li Yawmin ‘Azeem
(5) For a tremendous Day –
(٦) يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
Yawma yaqoomun naasu li Rabbil ‘aalameen
(6) The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds?
(٧) كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلۡفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٖ
Kallaaa inna kitaabal fujjaari lafee Sijjeen
(7) No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen.
(٨) وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٞ
Wa maa adraaka maa Sijjeen
(8) And what can make you know what is sijjeen?
(٩) كِتَٰبٞ مَّرۡقُومٞ
Kitaabum marqoom
(9) It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed.
(١٠) وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Wailuny yawma’izil lil mukazzibeen
(10) Woe, that Day, to the deniers,
(١١) ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ
Allazeena yukazziboona bi yawmid deen
(11) Who deny the Day of Recompense.
(١٢) وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعۡتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
Wa maa yukazzibu biheee illaa kullu mu’tadin aseem
(12) And none deny it except every sinful transgressor.
(١٣) إِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
Izaa tutlaa’alaihi aayaatunaa qaala asaateerul awwaleen
(13) When Our verses are recited to him, he says, “Legends of the former peoples.”
(١٤) كَلَّاۖ بَلۡۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ
Kallaa bal raana ‘alaa quloobihim maa kaanoo yaksiboon
(14) No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.
(١٥) كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمۡ عَن رَّبِّهِمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّمَحۡجُوبُونَ
Kallaaa innahum ‘ar Rabbihim yawma’izil lamah jooboon
(15) No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.
(١٦) ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمۡ لَصَالُواْ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ
Summa innahum lasaa lul jaheem
(16) Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire.
(١٧) ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Summa yuqaalu haazal lazee kuntum bihee tukazziboon
(17) Then it will be said [to them], “This is what you used to deny.”
(١٨) كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ
Kallaaa inna kitaabal abraari lafee’Illiyyeen
(18) No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in ‘illiyyun.
(١٩) وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ
Wa maaa adraaka maa ‘Illiyyoon
(19) And what can make you know what is ‘illiyyun?
(٢٠) كِتَٰبٞ مَّرۡقُومٞ
Kitaabum marqoom
(20) It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed
(٢١) يَشۡهَدُهُ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ
Yashhadu hul muqarra boon
(21) Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah].
(٢٢) إِنَّ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ
Innal abraara lafee Na’eem
(22) Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure
(٢٣) عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
‘Alal araaa’iki yanzuroon
(23) On adorned couches, observing.
(٢٤) تَعۡرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمۡ نَضۡرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
Ta’rifu fee wujoohihim nadratan na’eem
(24) You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure.
(٢٥) يُسۡقَوۡنَ مِن رَّحِيقٖ مَّخۡتُومٍ
Yusqawna mir raheeqim makhtoom
(25) They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed.
(٢٦) خِتَٰمُهُۥ مِسۡكٞۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلۡيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلۡمُتَنَٰفِسُونَ
Khitaamuhoo misk; wa fee zaalika falyatanaafasil Mutanaafisoon
(26) The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete.
(٢٧) وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسۡنِيمٍ
Wa mizaajuhoo min Tasneem
(27) And its mixture is of Tasneem,
(٢٨) عَيۡنٗا يَشۡرَبُ بِهَا ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ
‘Ainaiy yashrabu bihal muqarraboon
(28) A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink.
(٢٩) إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجۡرَمُواْ كَانُواْ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ يَضۡحَكُونَ
Innal lazeena ajramoo kaanoo minal lazeena aamanoo yadhakoon
(29) Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.
(٣٠) وَإِذَا مَرُّواْ بِهِمۡ يَتَغَامَزُونَ
Wa izaa marroo bihim yataghaamazoon
(30) And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.
(٣١) وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓاْ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُواْ فَكِهِينَ
Wa izan qalabooo ilaaa ahlihimun qalaboo fakiheen
(31) And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting.
(٣٢) وَإِذَا رَأَوۡهُمۡ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ
Wa izaa ra awhum qaalooo inna haaa’ulaaa’i ladaaal loon
(32) And when they saw them, they would say, “Indeed, those are truly lost.”
(٣٣) وَمَآ أُرۡسِلُواْ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَٰفِظِينَ
Wa maaa ursiloo ‘alaihim haafizeen
(33) But they had not been sent as guardians over them.
(٣٤) فَٱلۡيَوۡمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡكُفَّارِ يَضۡحَكُونَ
Fal yawmal lazeena aamanoo minal kuffaari yadhakoon
(34) So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers,
(٣٥) عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
‘Alal araaa’iki yanzuroon
(35) On adorned couches, observing.
(٣٦) هَلۡ ثُوِّبَ ٱلۡكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُواْ يَفۡعَلُونَ
Hal suwwibal kuffaaru maa kaanoo yaf’aloon
(36) Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do?
