The Resurrection

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Laaa uqsimu bi yawmil qiyaamah
(1) I swear by the Day of Resurrection
Wa laaa uqsimu bin nafsil lawwaamah
(2) And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection].

Balaa qaadireena ‘alaaa an nusawwiya banaanah
(4) Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips.

Fa izaa bariqal basar
(7) So when vision is dazzled
Wa khasafal qamar
(8) And the moon darkens
Wa jumi’ash shamsu wal qamar

Balil insaanu ‘alaa nafsihee baseerah
(14) Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,
Wa law alqaa ma’aazeerah
(15) Even if he presents his excuses.

Inna ‘alainaa jam’ahoo wa qur aanah
(17) Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.
Fa izaa qaraanaahu fattabi’ qur aanah
(18) So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.
Summa inna ‘alainaa bayaanah
(19) Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].
Kallaa bal tuhibboonal ‘aajilah
(20) No! But you love the immediate
Wa tazaroonal Aakhirah
(21) And leave the Hereafter.

Tazunnu any yuf’ala bihaa faaqirah
(25) Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking.
Kallaaa izaa balaghatit taraaqee
(26) No! When the soul has reached the collar bones

(29) And the leg is wound about the leg,
Ilaa rabbika yawma’izinil masaaq
(30) To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.
Falaa saddaqa wa laa sallaa
(31) And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed.

(32) But [instead], he denied and turned away.

(33) And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride].

(38) Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]

Alaisa zaalika biqaadirin ‘alaaa any yuhyiyal mawtaa
(40) Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead?
