At-Takathur
Vying for increase
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Bismillah hir rahman nir raheem
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
(١) أَلۡهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ
Al haaku mut takathur
(1) Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you
(٢) حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ
Hatta zurtumul-maqaabir
(2) Until you visit the graveyards.
(٣) كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ
Kalla sawfa ta’lamoon
(3) No! You are going to know.
(٤) ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ
Thumma kalla sawfa ta’lamoon
(4) Then no! You are going to know.
(٥) كَلَّا لَوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عِلۡمَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
Kalla law ta’lamoona ‘ilmal yaqeen
(5) No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty…
(٦) لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ
Latara-wun nal jaheem
(6) You will surely see the Hellfire.
(٧) ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيۡنَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
Thumma latara wunnaha ‘ainal yaqeen
(7) Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.
(٨) ثُمَّ لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
Thumma latus alunna yauma-izin ‘anin na’eem
(8) Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.
